notes in pdf format.By Parrish Lee Sunday, September 6th, 2009 Mark 9:14-29 One of the scribes brought his son to Jesus for a healing, after the disciples failed to cast out the demon. Parrish pointed out that this happened right after the Transfiguration. We could talk about the significance of Jesus showing three of His disciples who He was, right before showing the Scribes who He was, but not today. We could talk about people that just wanted to see one of Jesus' miracles, as Herod did, just so they could say that they had seen it, but, again, not today. We could talk about the son, who was possessed ever since he was a child, and how many people today inherit bad situations from their parents, and just grow up spiritually disadvantaged, but not today either. Today we will talk about how the father was plagued by his son's situation. Mark 9:22 have compassion on us, and help us But, also, the father made it conditional. He said, if thou canst do anything... Jesus made His answer conditional, too. Mark 9:23 If thou believe The bottom line is that the disciples couldn't do anything on their own. Only when we let Jesus work through us does anything ever really get accomplished. Psalms 127:1 Except the Lord build the house... Matthew 17:14-16 a slightly different telling of the story of the man who brought his son to Jesus. Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus tells us to take up His yoke, which is light (because He is doing the heavy lifting). 1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
