“The
Love of God Is Within You” By Tom Hanson November 22nd,
2009 This message had three parts: 1. The Love of God Is Within Reach 2. The Love of God Is Within Shouting Distance 3. The Love of God Is Within Striking Distance Where is God today? I think all of us can say, “I can get a little closer to God.” We could have a relationship with God that is more sincere. We live in times when it may seem that we don’t have control, or that you can’t realize your dreams, but your dreams might not be far away. 2
Corinthians 6:2
…in the day of
salvation have I succoured thee… How important it is for us to commit ourselves to God. 1
John 4:8
…God is love. We are not serving God-lite. Our God is the real thing. Where is God in your life? The Love of God Is
Within Reach Mark
5:21-43 Jairus
came to Jesus asking
for a healing for his daughter, along the way, that met a woman with an
issue
of blood.
Jesus
is busy, yes, but He is never too busy for you.
The woman reached out to Jesus, and He
responded to her need. Matthew
14:22-32
Peter walked on the
water Jesus reached out to Peter and responded to Peter’s need. Peter knew he didn’t have very long; when he cried out to Jesus it was just, “Lord, save me!” The Love of God Is Within Shouting Distance Luke
17:12-14
10 lepers were cleansed after they shouted out
to Jesus,
“Have mercy on us!” Matthew
30:30-34
2 blind men were healed
after they shouted, “Have mercy on us!” The people around the blind men were uncomfortable and told them to tone it down, but they had a legitimate need, and they “cried the more.” Don’t let other people stop you from getting Jesus’ attention. Spiritually, we may be blind, also. No one is exempt; all of us have needs. He’s here today. The Love of God Is
Within Striking Distance Peter was a strong servant, but he was hasty at times. Luke
22:50-51
Jesus healed a
man’s ear Jesus heals the wounds that we inflict on others in our haste to defend our Lord, our ministry, and our brethren. Sometimes religious people are our biggest targets.
Here’s
an example of a different use of striking distance: John
4:46-54 a
nobleman came from He may have
come
the farthest that day to get the closest.
He asked Jesus to heal his son; Jesus did, and
the man believed, and his
house. Jesus wants
to bless us, we just
need to close the distance. The love of God is within sight: Luke
19:1-10 Zacchaeus
climbed a tree to
see Jesus Zacchaeus was a publican and he was rich (2 strikes against him) but Jesus saw him and brought salvation to his house. We need to make the effort to get in Jesus’ sight. John
11:39
Lazarus wasn’t the only one
there that was stinking. Remember that Jonah got a three day ride in an underwater taxi to get where God needed him to be. In Elijah’s day it didn’t rain for three years. God has a schedule to keep. If He starts moving you, just go with it.
The
love of God is within reason: Isaiah
1:17-18 …Come now,
let us reason
together, saith the LORD…
The love of God is
within you: Luke
17:21
…behold, the Reach out today—get His attention: He wants to hear from you, He wants to help you today. He loves you. Sermon notes by Pete Shepherd |
