The message had three parts:

1)                  What is the purpose of life?

2)                  You are not an accident.

3)                  It’s simple.

What is the purpose of life?

Men have been puzzled over that question for thousands of years about what is the purpose of life.  Philosophers have tried to answer it.  Make no mistake, there have been spirits that have tried to give us the answer, too, answers with enticing words.  There was one Greek philosopher that I like to call Play-dough, because you can take his words and stretch them any way you want.  There was a Chinese guy called Confusion; he had a lot of great one-liners, but not much actual truth.  Then there’s another one named Satan, who is a liar, and the father of confusion.  He puts out a lot of untruth, and a lot of people fall for it.  Why are we here, what is it all about, what is the meaning of it all?

Ecclesiastes 12:13       …keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

If you want to know why you were placed here it began with God.

My Testimony:  I grew up wondering what do I want to be, what should I do with my life, What are my goals, What is my future. We focus so much on ourselves; we won’t see our purpose in Christ.

Job 12:10        In whose hand is the soul of every living thing...

God directs our lives, He is our Creator

Proverb 3:5-6  …he shall direct thy paths.

He made us, if I made something and handed it to you and you ask “what is this for?” you wouldn’t know its purpose.  Only the creator or the manual will show you.  So we must go to God to find our purpose, because we exist only because God wills that we exist. You were made by God and for God.  Until we understand that, living will not make sense.

You are not an accident

Your birth is no mistake, mishap, or fluke of nature. Your parents may not have planned you, but you were planned.

Psalm 138:8    …forsake not the works of thine own hands.

But God planned you; His will will be done, even through human error and failings.  God made us.

Psalm 139:13-16         …I am fearfully and wonderfully made...

God made us, he chose your race, color of your skin, hair, sex, custom made your body, people say to me that I am out of shape, I tell them round is a shape, Church, he knows every detail.  God decided the date.

Acts 17:26       …hath determined the times before appointed…

God decided the date you were born and how long you will live.

Purpose of life, why we are here, it begins with God.  You are not an accident, God planned you. So celebrate the fact that God created you, no matter how you came into this earth.

It’s simple

Living with purpose is simple. Repent and be baptized in Jesus Name.  It is to be a reflection of God’s love in everything we do.  The Disciples asked Jesus what is the greatest commandment:

Matthew 22:37-40       Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment...

See how simple it is:  If you are a cook, or a chef, cook with love.  Share that Godly love around.  High School or Junior High Students, show that Godly love in school activities.  Customer Services, people that are unhappy about the product or services they received, show that love.  When you show Godly love in your actions, attitude or conversation, you exalted the Name of Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-16         Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

People see that light through good works, it glorifies your Father.

John 15:8-17   Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit...

Results of obedience:  Verse 10 abide in his love.  Verse 11 your joy might be full.  Verse 13 greater love.  Verse 14 you are my friend.  Verse 16 I have chosen you, bring much fruit, what ever you ask in my name you will have it.

An atheist leader said that if he saw more redeemed people, he might be more inclined to believe in their Redeemer.  I’m telling you church, everyday we can change the credibility gap between religious and true Christian.  Feelings and faith, sand and rock.  It doesn’t matter how much schooling a doctor has: if people are dying under his care, I would question his skill.  It doesn’t matter how much the mechanic that works on your car is certified, would you trust him if the car still doesn’t run right?  People are looking, they are seeking answers in this life and we have the answer, so live with purpose.

HOMEWORK: look up the following scriptures:

Psalm 23:1, Psalm 37:25, Matthew 7:7-11, Philippians 4:19, and 1 Peter 5:6-7

You will be tested after you leave the service.
