“Let Your Light Shine” By Robert J. Heirtzler August 5th,
2012 Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works… 1. Light
Source: Who is the Light Source? The Word of God tells us in many places
that say Who the light source is. Here
are a few examples: (lighting first candle)
The Word said that God was the light of men, women, boys, and girls (no
gender): John 1:1-14 …In Him was life, and the life was the
light of men… God became flesh and dwelt among us
as a light. Jesus Himself also spoke,
saying, “I am the light of the world.” John 8:12 …I am the light
of the world… God has shined in our hearts to give
us the light of knowledge. People around
will know that Jesus is shining through us and that we have the light of the
knowledge of God. People are hungry and
they are looking for the truth like we once were searching for the truth! 2 Corinthians 4:6 For
God…hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge… 2. We are Lit Up! (lighting the
second candle) How do we get this light to shine? Jesus was our example of being baptized. The Scripture states: Matthew 3:13 “…the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and
lighting upon Him.” When
we got baptized, we were followers of God.
Ephesians 5:1-10 …but now are ye light in the Lord: walk
as children of Light… But
now are ye light in the Lord!! We are
lit up by God! Now we shine for others to see.
Why? because we are children of the light! He gave us a new start. We should share that with people. Talk to people, get involved. Psalms 119:105 Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a
light unto my path. Sometimes our walk can be rough, or we
can be having a bad day and things are not going our way. We know that God is there. This seems to be the best time to be a bright
light for others to see. People are
always watching; they are looking for the real McCoy! The Word of God is a light unto my feet. It’s much better than the E*TRADE Green Light
showing the way. If you stumble and
fall, get back up. Be that bright light
going through the toughest time. 3. Shine For Others (Set the mirror
on the table…we are the reflection of God) The mirror represents the world;
people see the light of God shining from within to without. The light of God is drawing them to the
light, just like we were drawn to the light!
Ye shine as lights in the world.
Be consistent every day. Be
faithful to God. Shine for others. The world is fed up with religious people. Philippians
2:12-15 …among whom ye shine as lights
in the world; Jesus
wants us to stand out from the crowd and shine as lights in the world. You should be in harmony with the church leadership. Be mindful of the reflection in the
mirror. The world watches us, just as
they watched Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and Daniel. Our God is bigger than numbers. Matthew 5:14-16 Ye are the light of the world… Family,
friends, co-workers, customers… All those people that we come in contact with see
the light in our lives. Why? God has put
us on a hill to shine! When I was young,
we would be traveling back to home, and we could see the city lights long
before we could see the city itself…
Your testimony cannot be hid. God
will use us in a mighty way. Be that
light; be that testimony. God’s going to
use us. Let
us continue to be the Light for Jesus in everything we do, everywhere we go. Sermon notes by Pete Shepherd |
